A property investment company
recovered money overpaid on a high quality city centre
office block from this Midlands local authority.
But only after Accurates discovered significant non-compliance
issues in the authority’s rate calculations.
A simple error, but only Accurates spotted it
Our client had been served a series of rate demand
notices all purporting to meet statutory requirements
but we found this wasn’t the case. However proving
the rate demands didn’t comply with rating legislation
for unoccupied non-domestic property in England was
another matter.
First, we established the sequence of events started
by the billing authority, and then reviewed them in
respect of the compliance framework.
Following a forensic audit of the visible paper trail,
plus documents disclosed only after we requested them,
we put together an argument for non-compliance with
statutory requirements.
And the result - £200,000 recovered. |
